Limericks van John O' Mill

 

In de boekenkast van mijn ouders vond ik dit boekje. Het boekje was een cadeautje van Marietje en Truusje Piek tijdens een Sinterklaas in 1958. Wim Kan schrijft in het voorwoord lovend over deze Nederlandse leraar Engels die van de blunders van zijn leerlingen vermakelijke limericks  maakte. Wel hardop lezen, anders ontgaat je vaak de grap.

A hot-headed Drent in Ter Apel

who always ran too hard from staple

forsplintered his plate

when the waitress was late

and gave her a lell with the laple

 

# The sleep of the just

A sleepwalker caught in a cyclone

broke his neck and his back and his thighbone

but he just slentered on

in his old nightyapon

which proves him a very rare snighbone

 

# Rot yong

A terrible infant called Peter

sprinkled water in his bed with a gheeter

his father got woost

took hold of a cnoost

and gave him a pack on his meeter

 

# De kruisridder

Een fel papenvreter in Leiden

die alles wat Rooms is wil mijden

heeft ook, consequent

tot het bittere end

het kruis uit zijn broek laten snijden
